March 27

Fellow Democrats:

The first phase of the election cycle for Democrats is about to begin. Precinct caucuses are scheduled throughout the state of Washington on April 15, 2012 at 1:00pm. Benton county will have all Democrats meet at Hanford High School on this date. This is your chance to begin the process to attend the national convention in North Carolina in September. It is also an opportunity to meet fellow Democrats from the entire county. Past years have had Democrats meeting in several sites in the county. In 2012, we will meet at the one site to share ideas, build unity, and craft a message to return Benton county to the Democrats.

It may seem that it is not important to attend the caucus as the Democratic candidate for President is already selected. However, Democrats cannot fail President Obama. The attacks have been been continuos, mean spirited, and unfounded. Be assured that any progress President Obama has achieved will be under assault by the money infused by the Citizens United decision. Medicare, Social Security, the Affordable Care Act, and the fragile economic recovery are at risk. For Democrats to fail to support the President is, simply, not an option. As it has been said, life is sometimes about showing up. So, show up!

On another note, as many of you are aware, the Republican party turned away many of its supporters at their convention in March. The Democrats will not turn a single Democrat away from the caucus. Everyone who attends will be accommodated, even if we must meet in the parking lot, on the lawn, or in a hallway.

Please also consider attending the county convention on April 28 at Hanford High School. The convention will be open to all Democrats. The platform and resolutions will be approved at this meeting.
